Work Observability Glossary

Your guide to the terminology that powers modern team execution, follow-through tracking, and AI-driven productivity. Browse, bookmark, and deep-link to any term.

@HeyWren Mention

Tagging @HeyWren in Slack or email to flag an item for follow-through tracking. A lightweight way to add any conversation to your commitment radar without leaving your chat interface.

Achievement Badge

Milestone earned through consistent follow-through behavior (e.g., "First Spark," "Streak Legend"). Badges celebrate your progress and reinforce positive execution habits.

Action Item

A specific task committed to during a meeting or conversation. Action items form the atomic unit of follow-through tracking—each one has a lifecycle from creation to closure.

Anomaly Detection

When Wren identifies behavior that deviates from your personal baseline. Examples include unusual delays in responding to direct reports, or a spike in context switches.

Blind Spot

A commitment, relationship, or pattern you're unaware of or have lost visibility into. Wren surfaces blind spots so you can reclaim focus on what matters most.

Commitment

Any promise, task, or deliverable that a person has explicitly or implicitly agreed to complete. Commitments are the building blocks of work observability; tracking them end-to-end prevents slip-through.

Commitment Score

A 0-100 rating that measures the urgency and risk of a specific commitment, calculated from 9 weighted signals including recency, stakeholder seniority, and historical completion time.

Commitment Tracing

Following a commitment from its origin (meeting, email, Slack) through every touchpoint until resolution. The core feature that prevents commitments from falling through cracks.

Context Switch

Moving attention between unrelated tasks, which research shows reduces productivity by up to 40%. Wren monitors context switches to help you protect deep work time.

Customer Promise

A commitment made to an external customer, tagged separately for higher-stakes tracking. Customer promises typically get elevated priority in follow-through scoring.

Deep Work

Uninterrupted focus blocks of 45+ minutes, essential for complex follow-through tasks. Wren helps you schedule and protect deep work time to increase actual completion rates.

Delegation Tracking

Monitoring whether tasks you've assigned to others produce artifacts within expected timeframes. Prevents delegated work from becoming invisible until it's overdue.

Draft Queue

AI-generated follow-up messages that Wren pre-writes for your review and approval. Saves you the mental load of composing status updates, reminders, and next-step communications.

Energy Monitoring

Tracking meeting load, context switches, and deep work blocks to assess your capacity. High energy depletion signals when you need to reduce commitments or delegate more aggressively.

Follow-Through

The act of completing what was committed to, all the way to resolution. Follow-through is the counterforce to the chaos of modern async work; it's the difference between intention and impact.

Follow-Through Score

Your weekly percentage of commitments resolved vs. total active. A personal metric that tracks your execution consistency and helps identify when you're overcommitted.

Forecasting

Wren's predictions about backlog clearance, SLO breaches, and capacity needs based on your historical patterns. Forecast alerts let you preempt bottlenecks before they cascade.

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)

Optimizing content so AI systems (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, etc.) surface it in their answers. A newer discipline that complements SEO for the AI-first web.

Handoff Protocol

The process of transferring open commitments when someone goes on PTO or changes roles. Wren's handoff tools ensure continuity and prevent commitments from being forgotten during transitions.

Meeting ROI

A score (0-100) measuring the ratio of action items generated to action items completed from a given meeting. High Meeting ROI means your meetings are productive and outcomes-focused.

Momentum

A composite metric combining streak length, follow-through rate, and XP progression. Momentum reflects the positive compounding effect of consistent execution.

Nudge

An AI-generated alert from Wren about a commitment that needs attention—either approaching deadline, stakeholder waiting, or unusual delay. Nudges are timely, contextual, and actionable.

Observability (Work)

Visibility into the state, health, and progress of work commitments across an organization. Work observability is to team execution what monitoring is to infrastructure—a prerequisite for reliability.

Personal SLO

A self-set Service Level Objective for response time, follow-through rate, or other personal metrics. Personal SLOs help you define and measure what "reliable execution" means for your role.

Playbook

A user-defined trigger-action rule that automates how Wren handles specific situations (e.g., "if customer promise and overdue, escalate to my manager"). Playbooks let you encode your decision logic once.

Pre-Meeting Briefing

An auto-generated context card with open items, relationship health, and talking points for each attendee. Meeting briefings maximize the value of every hour spent in conversation.

Relationship Health Score

A metric based on interaction frequency, sentiment, and mutual follow-through between you and a colleague. Relationship health helps you spot when partnerships are drifting.

Role Archetype

One of 6 user profiles (CEO, VP Sales, Marketing, Engineering, CS, Ops) that adapts Wren's coaching style and feature prioritization to your domain-specific challenges.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Optimizing web content to rank higher in search engine results like Google. SEO drives long-term organic traffic and credibility for your brand.

SLO (Service Level Objective)

A target metric for acceptable performance (e.g., "respond to direct reports within 4 hours" or "clear follow-through backlog by Friday EOD"). SLOs turn vague goals into measurable commitments.

Streak

Consecutive days where you complete at least one commitment, tracked with fire icons. Streaks create positive momentum and reinforce execution habits.

Tone Analysis

Wren's assessment of communication sentiment across your messages. Tone analysis helps you spot when your relationship with a stakeholder is cooling or when they're stressed about a commitment.

Weekly Review

A structured reflection on the past week's commitments, wins, and areas for improvement. Weekly reviews build self-awareness about your execution patterns and inform the coming week's priorities.

Work Observability Platform

A software category (pioneered by HeyWren) that provides real-time visibility into work execution, commitment health, and follow-through metrics across teams and individuals.

XP (Experience Points)

Points earned for completing nudges, maintaining streaks, and hitting personal SLOs. XP gamifies the follow-through journey and surfaces progress you might otherwise miss.
